Our Walk and Talk is now a part of our Cliftonville Project, funded by the People’s Health Trust. The Cliftonville area is one of the most deprived in the country, with high rates of poverty and mental illness. As such, there is a great deal of social isolation amongst the most vulnerable in the area. It has been well established that exercise is not just great for physical health, but mental health as well. Our Walk and Talk takes the participants for a stroll along the idyllic coastline of Margate, with each person going at their own pace. It’s an opportunity for people to get some exercise while also meeting new people who know what it’s like to be isolated and to have mental health difficulties. After a hard and demoralizingly cold winter and spring, that prevented members from getting out and about and enjoying the beauty of outdoor life, members gathered under the Margate Clock Tower to walk along the promenade to the Palm Bay Cafe. The Walk and Talk runs every Tuesday, we leave the Margate Clock Tower at 1pm or from the Lido at 1:10pm. If you would like to come along and join in the fun of gentle exercise and stimulating company, then give Maggie a ring on 01843 448384 or email us on firstname.lastname@example.org.
